Silvaticus 3015, which has a budget of $NZ109 million, plans to film in Wellington next year, as well as some location shooting – most probably in the South Island.

The film, set more than 500 years in the future about survivors from a destroyed Earth and another planet, is being written by Alien screenwriter Dan O\'Bannon and Adam Edwards.

Edwards, head of development at Hawk Sound Studios is Los Angeles, said they had not planned to make it in New Zealand.

But while touring the country on holiday earlier this year with producer Michelle Porter he was impressed by our landscapes and meeting Richard Taylor, head of Weta visual effects studios.

Silvaticus 3015 is one of several Hollywood movies confirmed in recent weeks that will be filmed in New Zealand.

It includes X-Men spinoff Wolverine and vampire movie Underworld 3: The Rise of the Lycans.
